About this event
Welcome to our first Ashoka Demokratie Mut-Tankstelle!
Join us for an inspiring evening of conversation and connection as we explore how global solutions can spark local action for civic participation. Learn about pioneering approaches from Ashoka fellows and gain hands-on insights from democracy changemakers.
This event is designed to foster open dialogue, co-creation, and collaboration among people striving for a better society. Whether you're a social entrepreneur, activist, or simply curious about democracy, this is your space to connect with like-minded individuals and drive positive change.
Special Guests
We’re honored to welcome two outstanding Ashoka Fellows who have dedicated their lives to strengthening democracy and civic participation:
Rebekka Dober Founder of YEP-Youth Empowerment Participation, Ashoka Fellow
Rebekka is transforming the political landscape by empowering young people to
become active co-creators of democracy. She has initiated over 370 participation
processes, giving young people an impactful voice in political and societal decision-
making while teaching democratic literacy. Her work shows that real democracy needs the voices of everyone involved, young and old, and she proves that democracy is something you can (and must!) actively train in daily life.
Pam Warhurst Co-Founder of Incredible Edible, lifelong activist
Pam has been an activist for over 50 years. She was the first woman elected to her local council, later worked closely with the EU regional council and was recognized by the Queen for her services to the environment. In 2008, she co-founded Incredible Edible, a grassroots movement that uses the power of food to bring communities together and build a sustainable future. What began with planting herbs and vegetables in public spaces in Todmorden, UK, has since grown into a global movement with 700+ groups worldwide. Its simple ethos “If you eat, you’re in” empowers citizens to claim their right to community land, foster resilience, and grow confidence by growing food.
Both Rebekka and Pam have developed impactful solutions to strengthen democratic participation and will share personal insights and experiences that inspire action and hope.
What to expect:
- Thought-provoking conversations on democracy and civic engagement.
- Enriching opportunities to connect and co-create with others.
- An inclusive space that fosters idea exchange and inspiration.
