About Christine's Circular Pizza Workshop
The Circular Pizza Workshop is an interactive, hands-on educational and networking format that makes the principles of the circular bioeconomy tangible. Participants (focus on Female Innovators) learn how to transform surplus or leftover ingredients, such as unsold bread, into delicious pizzas while understanding their value within regional value chains, sustainable consumption, and food waste reduction. It serves as a platform for co-creation, allowing participants to collaboratively explore innovative uses for resources and develop solutions applicable to their own contexts.
To evaluate the impact, a post-workshop survey is conducted, measuring changes in participants’ awareness, knowledge, and motivation regarding circular economy principles. The survey is benchmarked against a study developed by Christine Bertl (currently unpublished), ensuring a scientifically grounded comparison to quantify learning outcomes and the effectiveness of participatory, hands-on methods in promoting sustainable behavior.
The Circular Pizza is enjoyed together, and participants reflect on the experience, answering the question: “How will you collaborate differently in the future?” to internalize learning outcomes and encourage behavior change aligned with SDG 12.3 – reducing food waste.
Facilitated by Christine Bertl, a Circular Bioeconomy Scientist with EU Horizon project experience, the workshop teaches residual material valorization, circular design, and regional resource use, leaving participants with practical skills, inspiration, and a better understanding of circular thinking in everyday and professional contexts.
