Aim of the Workshop:

As a researcher you are probably familiar with this situation: you need to get an overview of an unknown research field – and you need it fast.

Traditionally, this has been a daunting task. In this workshop we will discuss issues around academic literature search, and how innovative tools based on open content can help overcome these issues. Specifically, we are going to take a closer look at Open Knowledge Maps, a visual interface to scientific knowledge.

Search engines and discovery tools are also a way for other people to find your research.

You’ll learn more about how these tools work and how you can use this knowledge to your advantage. Dr. Peter Kraker will give practical tips to finally answer the question How do I get my research to show up in search engines and discovery tools?

The workshop will be interactive and hands-on. There will be discussions on both topics and we will play a fun and fast-paced game introducing you to strategies for a more effective literature research. Please don't forget to bring your own laptop computer.
