About this event

Arts • Opera

Mira Alkhovik (soprano, Volksoper Wien) hails from Saint Petersburg and studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory and Bern University of the Arts, graduating with honors in 2024. A prize-winner at the ARD Competition (3rd Prize, Best Contemporary Art Song) and the Tenor Viñas Contest (2nd Prize, Oratorio-Lied), she’s a rising voice in European song recital landscape. Christopher Flaskamp (pianist, Volksoper Wien Opera Studio) grew up in Wuppertal and trained in piano and choral conducting in Cologne and Freiburg, later directing the Freiburg Madrigal Choir (2020–24). Andrei Maksimov (baritone, Wiener Staatsoper Opera Studio) graduated from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 2020, performed in the Mariinsky Young Artists’ Academy, studied in Modena and Berlin, and has received prizes at the George Enescu and Hans Staud competitions; he joins the Staatsoper’s studio in the 2024/25 season.

The evening unfolds across compelling Soviet song cycles by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Gavrilin, Sviridov, Petrov, and Tariverdiev.

This Liederabend traces a narrative arc from contemplative lyricism through wartime intimacy, then to vivid color, culminating in a charged poetic exploration — brought to life by the crystalline soprano of Alkhovik, the supple, sensitive accompaniment of Flaskamp, and Maksimov’s baritone gravitas.
