Metal 3D Printing in Orbit - Advenit Makaya
Overview
Join us for a fascinating talk on a historic milestone in space technology!
In this lecture, Advenit Makaya will describe the recent significant achievement by a European team, on the first demonstration of additive manufacturing of metallic parts on Earth orbit. He will discuss the objectives of the mission, the team behind it, the technical characteristics of the equipment, the timeline, the challenges, the current results, and the lessons from this development. This achievement will be considered in the context of the development of in-space manufacturing capabilities, to support future sustainable space activities
Dr. Advenit Makaya is an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at the European Space Research and Technology Center of the European Space Agency. He supports the development of advanced materials and processes for space applications and helps provide expertise on materials and processes to ESA missions. In this context, Advenit coordinates the Out-of-Earth Manufacturing initiative with the aim of promoting the development of technologies for in-orbit and on-planet manufacturing.
This talk takes part within the MBA programme Space Architecture & Management.
