WOMEN IN LAW

Understanding and battling implicit biases. Study presentation and working groups.

The term glass ceiling refers to the phenomenon of seemingly invisible barriers that prevent certain individuals from reaching higher management positions within their organisation. Because these barriers are metaphorical and unwritten, hence not immediately visible, they are perceived as a glass ceiling. This leads to lasting disappointment and annoyance not only among the individuals affected, who entered the professional world with high expectations of equal opportunities but also in society, since implicit biases are being accepted as norms rather than defined corporate policies.
Women in Finance, an initiative that promotes equal and fair opportunities for all those working in the financial sector, has made it its mission to assess and publish figures on the progress of gender equality in the financial sector. On 17th November 2022 the results of the latest studies will be presented by the hosts Doris Zingl (Head of Legal Affairs, Association of Austrian Banks and Bankers), Valeska Grond-Szucsich (Banking Law, Consumer Affairs, Association of Austrian Banks and Bankers), Alexandra Simotta (General Manager Austria, PAYONE Austrian Branch) and Sophie Martinetz (Founder, Women in Law) together with Claire Godding (Co-Chair, Women in Finance Belgium).
Our guest speaker Claire Godding invests a lot of her time to ensure equality between men and women. At BNP Paribas Fortis she was the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for 10 years. Since 2019, she joined Febelfin to help the whole financial sector to become more inclusive & diverse.
After the initial presentation, the participants will be divided into working groups to separately discuss different aspects of the topic. The talk will be held online and in English.
