Wie kann Kunst neue Perspektiven auf Umwelt und Zusammenleben eröffnen? Jenny Marketou und Reinhold Zisser sprechen darüber bei einem öffentlichen Künstler:innengespräch vor Ort.

Marketou ist Künstlerin, Forscherin und Professorin an der New School for Social Research in New York. Ihr Projekt Inside the Belly of a Garden befindet sich am von Menschen geschaffenen Asperner See – ein beliebter Treffpunkt im Alltag der Menschen in der Seestadt.

Das Werk besteht aus einem zehn Meter langen Holzboot (Zille), das aus recyceltem Material gebaut und in einen lebendigen Garten verwandelt wurde. Es verbindet Skulptur und Natur, Boot und Rückzugsort – ein kleines Ökosystem mit Pflanzen und einem Stadtstrand entsteht.

Marketou beschäftigt sich mit Wasser als lebendige Kraft mit Erinnerung und Wirkung. Zisser bringt die Perspektive institutioneller Kunstkritik ein. Besucher:innen sind eingeladen, eigene Pflanzen und Samen mitzubringen – wir pflanzen sie gerne gemeinsam ein!

Über die Künstler:innen

Reinhold Zisser (*1980, Wien) ist Künstler und Initiator zahlreicher Projekte wie der Notgalerie, MUSOÄ und Kunstland Nord. Seine Arbeiten thematisieren die Beziehung zwischen Kunst und Institutionen und wurden u. a. mit dem österreichischen Staatsstipendium ausgezeichnet.

Jenny Marketou (geb. in Athen) verbindet Skulptur, Video und partizipative Formate in ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit. Ihre Werke wurden weltweit ausgestellt, u. a. bei documenta 14, Reina Sofia Madrid, ZKM Karlsruhe und New Museum New York.

Artist Talk with Jenny Marketou & Reinhold Zisser

How can art open up new perspectives on the environment and how we live together? Jenny Marketou and Reinhold Zisser will discuss these themes in a public artist talk at the site.

Marketou is an artist, researcher, and professor at The New School for Social Research in New York. Her project Inside the Belly of a Garden is located by the human-made Aspern Lake – a central gathering spot in the daily life of Seestadt.

The artwork features a 10-meter-long reclaimed Zille boat transformed into a living garden. Sculpture meets nature, vessel becomes refuge – forming a small ecosystem with plants and a tiny urban beach.

Marketou’s work explores water as a living force with memory and meaning. Zisser adds his critical view on institutional structures in art. Visitors are invited to bring their own plants or seeds – we’ll gladly plant them together on site!

About the artists

Reinhold Zisser (b. 1980, Vienna) is an artist and founder of projects like Notgalerie, MUSOÄ, and Kunstland Nord. His work explores the relationship between artists and institutions and has earned national awards including the Austrian State Grant.

Jenny Marketou (b. Athens) works with video, sculpture, and collective formats. Her projects have been shown internationally, including documenta 14, Reina Sofia Madrid, ZKM Karlsruhe, and the New Museum in New York.
