🚶‍♀️Alsergrund: The Stories Behind the 9th

Alsergrund – shaped by medicine, migration, municipal housing and a bookish charm that comes with being home to Vienna’s oldest university.

This walk takes in a mix of architecture, memory, and everyday life. We’ll pass Otto Wagner’s railway buildings and the Votivkirche, explore Servitenviertel’s café culture and Sobieskiplatz, trace the edge of the Donaukanal near the old economics university, and stop at VinziRast, WUK, and the Volksoper.

Along the way, we talk about how the district still leans left, what’s changing with the new U2/U5 extension, and what remains of places like the Narrenturm, Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, and the Strudelhofstiege.
