Studio Rags is the Adelaide studio of textile designer and artist Rehana Usman. Rehana studied Textile Design at Pakistan's prestigious National College of Arts, where she later taught as an Associate Professor. She spent years leading creative teams for some of Pakistan's largest textile companies, representing them at Heimtextil Frankfurt, Intertextil Shanghai and Texworld Paris. At her Sefton Park studio, Rehana shares that expertise through relaxed, hands-on workshops for adults, kids and families. Her signature classes are Indonesian Batik and Japanese Shibori dyeing. She also runs traditional woodblock printing workshops, where you hand-print your own fabric with carved wooden blocks, using techniques that go back centuries. She offers tie-dye and painting sessions too and her family friendly painting class is a Fringe favorite. Studio Rags' Online Batik and Shibori classes with a full kit are an excellent opportunity to learn from anywhere in Australia. Her Batik workshop has twice won an Adelaide Fringe Weekly Workshop Award. She was a Fringe 2025 finalist and a highly commended finalist in the Governor's Multicultural Awards 2024. Councils, schools and organisations across Adelaide trust her to run workshops for them.Rehana's mission is to revive cultural textile crafts and bring creativity and joy to Australia's multicultural community. You don't need any experience, and all materials are included. Just come along and make something beautiful.
