Bloom University
Bloom University provides trauma-informed training for all parents (biological parents, foster parents, and adoptive parents), caregivers, human service professionals, teachers, and other professionals or volunteers who work with children. All our training opportunities are designed to reflect best practices and standards of care for individuals working with children.
We currently offer a rotating schedule of programs and events that is open to the public, in addition to our Bloom licensed foster parents and Bloom Family Resource Center parents. Bloom parents receive complementary access to all courses.
Bloom University is led by Director Katie New, EdD, LMSW, RN. Dr. New oversees the implementation of therapeutic services and programs, facilitates training for foster parents, staff, and other community members, and ensures clinical fidelity to trauma-informed care. She holds a Doctorate in Education, Leadership, and Learning from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Social Work with a focus on Children, Adolescents, and Families from the University of Alabama. Katie is an advocate for children and has spent the last 17 years devoted to improving the lives of vulnerable children through her work.
