We are Laldie Ceilidhs Edinburgh.
We create public ceilidh dance events featuring high-energy bands.
Most months we run a Saturday ceilidh, usually at Assembly Roxy. We also organise ceilidhs on some special calendar dates.
We are Laldie Ceilidhs Edinburgh. We organise ceilidh dance events. In Scotland, contemporary ceilidh is embedded in our social culture. We learn ceilidh dances at school. We have a ceilidh dance at most Scottish weddings. There is a vibrant community of regular dancers. The word ceilidh originally meant a social gathering, encompassing story-telling, singing and poetry alongside music and dance. Modern ceilidhs are about the dancing. Ceilidh has has always been a community activity with the emphasis on participation and fun. It is a simple form of dance that can be enjoyed by complete beginners. People dance for the fun of it rather than to become expert. We are active dancers ourselves. Injuries permitting, we dance at the best Edinburgh ceilidhs week in and week out, especially the fabulous Edinburgh Ceilidh Club events at Summerhall each Tuesday. As enthusiastic (not accomplished or elegant) dancers, we create playful, carefree events. We try to make authentic ceilidhs that are a fun experience for experienced dancers and beginners alike. Our events are led by one of our favourite live bands and they call (give instructions) for each dance according to overall needs. We started hosting events in 2019 on an ad-hoc basis, filling some gaps in the Edinburgh dancing calendar. These days we usually promote one Saturday ceilidh a month, often at Assembly Roxy.Laldie Ceilidhs was started by Donald Maclennan and Patrick Steuart. Today the team is Sarah Blyth alongside Patrick.hello@laldieceilidhs.co.uk
